Masterminds is the first book in a 3 book long series written by Gordon Korman.  This, by far, has been one of the most enjoyable books I have ever read and it is just so fun and interesting to read.  I highly recommend that you read this book yourself, and I know that you won’t regret it.  Also, this book starts off slowly, but after that, it starts to get really fun and exciting.  You can probably tell from how much I have said about this book that you know it is going to be a 5 Star rating on my end, I don’t think there was anything wrong with this book, and I think anyone above the age of 8 can read this book, and it can easily appeal to older readers as well.

Serenity is a small town in the middle of nowhere, in New Mexico, where everything is perfect for the few residents that live there.  The houses are well maintained, the school is amazing, and everyone has everything they could ever need.  However, one day as Eli goes biking, when he crosses the town border, he suddenly feels nausea, headaches, pain and more.  Even more surprising, his best friend Randy doesn’t get whatever Eli has.  He is lifted into a helicopter by what the children of the town call the Purple People Eaters.  He is brought back to the town, but even more worrying is that Randy is going to his grandparents house, and he might not come back.  Eli finds a letter from Randy saying that something is off in the town, but soon, Eli and some more kids find out the secret behind the town of Serenity.  They find out that there is an experiment with 12 kids, who were exact DNA replicas of some of the worst criminals in history.  5 kids, Eli, Hector, Amber, Malik and Tori,  decide to leave the town, and they come up with a plan to do so.  5 kids escape the town, 4 kids live to tell the tale…
